The SSPP community at large is truly fortunate to have the married dancing duo of Jim and Anna Tsiamis perform at the Spring Fundraiser. Their eclectic and creative backgrounds lend themselves to be showcased. Many people don’t know of their expansive dancing backgrounds.
Jim Tsiamis is man of many talents. Being a classical dancer at heart, has not been widely publicized. The extent of his classical training is not commonly known, as his role as Coding Club parent and doting husband tend to overshadow it.
In 1977, Jim Tsiamis made his stage debut with the Kirov Ballet in Giselle, later starring as the dance company's premier danseur noble in Gorianka (1988) and Vestris (1989). Choreographer Leonid Jakobson is said to have tailored Vestris to suit Jim specifically. The work is now considered to be one of the dancer's signature pieces. Jim landed his first major honor in 1996, winning a gold medal at the Varna, Bulgaria, dance competition, and went on to win another gold medal at the First International Ballet Competition in Moscow in 1999.
Dazzling audiences with his astounding physical and technical skills as well as his emotional expressiveness, Jim’s fame quickly grew. By the late 1990s, he was one of the United States leading ballet dancers.
After falling in love with his wife Anna, he put all of this aside to begin a life with, albeit – a fellow dancer.
It is common knowledge in the hip hop world, that Anna Tsiamis if one of the founding female dancers that heavily influenced many artists of the 1980’s. She was on her way to be considered one of the most famous hip-hop artists and dancers of all time…until she met the love of her life, Jim. Her heyday was in the 80’s and 90’s where she showcased her dancing skills across many platforms; creating a following of the The Running Man and The Centipede. Anna has perfected many genres of dance in her time as she has had a multifaceted dancing career.
When asked by SSPP to join the Dancing with the Stars ensemble, both Jim and Anna were thrilled and stunned. Anna proclaimed “he didn’t even dance at our wedding!”…as he was too shy to take the spotlight away from his bride. The SSPP Spring fundraiser is truly an opportunity to let their creative dance backgrounds flourish.
Rosa Acuna (Choreographer)
Rosa Acuna was raised in beautiful North Beach. She is the mother to Anthony, an alumnus of SSPP, Roy in grade 1, and Elly. She was introduced to dance by her family, who are avid performers/dancers.
Her appreciation for dance grew stronger as she reached her teenage years, joining various dance teams throughout high school and later leading her to be part of a dance group with her husband Roly. Music and dance are a part of her everyday life, hoping to instill the same love for dancing in her kids!
